Anniversary Love Birds in Black and White

I made this for my brother and SIL for their anniversary. I went clean and simple (CAS) with it because along with the black and white I thought it gave it an elegant feel. I also added little rhinestone stickers to the image for a little bling. The White paper is by Bazzill and the black and white DP is from a pack of paper I got at Target a while back. The image is by Cornish Heritage Farms called George and Esther Love Birds.

Youth Guy Cards

I never have enough guy cards in my stash so when I needed to make one for my son's friend who had surgery this week, I made a second one to have on hand. The papers on both cards were in my stash of scraps and is by Cosmo Cricket. I have gotten a lot of use out of this batch of paper I bought a while ago for cards on the younger side. Since my son plays baseball with his friend who had surgery, I added the baseball and glove image from Cornish Heritage Farm's Athletic Hands set. The sentiment was created on the computer because I didn't have a stamp with a font to match the feel of the card. The inside says "to see how you are doing." On the second card I used a stamp from the Stampin Up Classic Convertibles set. No sentiment yet so I can add it later depending on the need. The stars on both cards were made with the SU big and small star punches.

Quilting Snowman

This is a new November release by KLM Digital Designs called Quilting Snowman. I paper pieced the blanket, scarf, and hat. The paper is Basic Grey Wassail paper from a 6x6 paper pad. To print the digital image on the patterned paper, I had pasted my image in Microsoft publisher and sized it down to about 3-1/4" x 2-1/2" and then had 4 of them laid out on the page. I then adhered a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of the patterned paper to a corner of an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of white card stock and ran it through the printer. I had the 3 white snowman and one snow man on the patterned paper. I trimmed out one snow man and cut it out with the oval Nestie and trimmed out the one on the patterned paper for the paper paper piecing technique. I cut out the blanket, scarf, and hat. The little poinsettia is also a from the DP that I closely trimmed to put over the image's flower on the hat. I enjoy taking these digital images and seeing how they work with some of my favorite stamping techniques. For example last week I posted a card on which I did an alcohol ink background technique and printed the image on a piece of that. See October 27 post.

Pumpkin Patch

KLM Digital Designs image called Pumpkin Patch. It comes with the Happy Harvest sentiment. I wanted to display how versatile the digital stamps are and used one of my favorite technique with this one. This one features the alcohol ink "smooshing" technique. Directions for the techniqe are below.

I paired the image with some Basic Grey Indian Summer paper from a 6x6 pad and SU cardstock in Really Rust, True Thyme, and Apricot Appeal. The card is embellished with amber rhinestones, SU photo corner punch. I used the Nestabilities oval and scallop oval dies for the sentiment. I also used my Copic markers to fill in the leaves, grass and part of basket a little.

Alcohol Smooshing Technique: For the technique you take a piece of acetate or any nonporous surface (have a paper towel close by). Place dots or thin lines alcohol ink in a couple of different colors on the acetate and then sprinkle on some blending solution. Take a 4x6 piece of glossy photo paper or glossy card stock and smoosh down on top of the alcohol inks. Twist it and pull up. It is kind of like the shaving cream technique. Once the glossy paper was dry, I ran it through the printer to get the image. You probably can print your image and then do the technique but I thought this gave a crisper look to the image but I will try printing first next time to try it out.

Acetate Christmas Tags

Got the idea for these acetate tags from a tag designed by Laura O'Donnell for Cornish Heritage Farms. It was posted on their blog and I thought it was a fabulous idea. I made these as samples for my friends to make during our weekly dinner and card making meeting. This week. I'm hosting and have to come up with a couple of projects.

The background is stamped on the acetate with StazOn Opaque Cotton White using a set of Stampendous clear stamps. Cuttlebug dies were used for the bases for the Petaloo flowers. Stamps from the SU Winter Post and Best Yet sets were used on the labels. The light blue and the red tag were heat embossed with white embossing powder. The SU tag corner punch was used to make the tags. The finished size is 2 inches wide by 3-1/2 inches long.

They were a lot of fun to make, especially since I was making them while watching the Yankees play the Angels tonight. Yankees won 10-1. Yeah baby!

Circle and Stars Celebrate

Why is it that when I set out to make a card, I think well I'm going to do something simple a few punches and a computer generated sentiment and I'm done....well 3 hours later I'm still tweaking this one. It is for my brother and it had to be just right. As you will see by my sidebar, his book, an anthology that he edited called Home of the Brave: Stories in Uniform won the gold medal for anthologies from the Military Writers Society of America. He received the award at their convention Saturday night and I am very proud of him. Please check out the book by clicking on the link on the sidebar. When you click on the link, you can also elect to send a book to a soldier. You may designate a soldier or have one sent to a random soldier. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each book is donated to USACares. It will make a good Christmas gift also.

Okay, about the card: The sketch is from the May 2009 Card Maker magazine. I was flipping through some old magazines and was reminded of this sketch and thought I would give it a try. I stamped some circles from the SU Simply Circles set and then cut them out with Spellbinders Nestabilities. I then sponged some color on a scrap of Very Vanilla cardstock and used the large and small SU Star punches. The finished size of the card is 4.25 x 4.25 I paper pierced the green DP and the large stars and did the faux stitching technique with the white gel pen. The DP is 2 sided paper by Dream Street Papers LLC. The design is called Clubhouse stripe. The sentiment was made using Microsoft Word WordArt. I then doodled around the circle, which I'm not thrilled about and wish I could take back. I added the semicircle of green peral stickers to hopefully detract from the bad doodling.
